Change Favicon

I want to change only the favicon of my search plugin, How can I do that?

edit: Just found it.

Why isn't there a counter on plugins? We want to know how many times our plugins are downloaded.

We all want to know how many times our plugins are downloaded.  Amirite?  Well I sure do.  This is really a simple request and it is odd that it doesn't show how many times a plugin has been downloaded.

Links 2003 Golfers ... search plugins for Links Corner to quickly find that course when everyones hounding u to hurry !

Links 2003 Golfers, I created search plugins for Links Corner to quickly find that course when everyones hounding u to hurry !
The course by name one is just that ...  enter course name or partial name ... sometimes the links corner search is finnicky so try various terms if not finding anything
The course by type accepts only 3 different search terms
r   =real
f=   fictional
b=   beta

heres a link to 'em hope they're helpful

General moan

Hey all, appologies in advance for the nooby rant but I am genuine about my concern for the mycroft world.
I've been using plugins from mycroft for quite awhile now, well as long as it has existed really.  I was doing a look on opensearch and noticed there are STACKS of IE7/8 index'es (hoorah microsoft, welcome to the 21st century....)  which are FAR more user friendly and quite franckly active..  I got rather peeved with some faulty ones recently and updated them and added a new one, which after my initial HOUR wrestling with the extremely annoying javascript on this site still failed so i opened vi, started apache and just did it myself. It works for myself but i cannot upload it to share. Annoying.

I noticed a few of the IE sites are ludicrously easy for people to submit new ones for, even automatic favicon lookups for icons. Simple and effective.

Could we please please please rework this site, a: for more activity b: easier tracking of who is responsible for maintaining X/y/Z.com's search ?
Surely the idea is to have a centralised archive (please, not JAVASCRIPT BASED, i hate having to pull up firebug just to figure out the ID of the search i want to fix is.... WTH.....) site that works and our time can be better spent just testing/checking new searches and having the option to make minor edits without the head-aches.
IE: /search.html?q={searchTerm}   ---increasingly thesedays -> /search/all/{searchTerm}
I cant even find a page telling me about the searches/fixes i've submitted here so i can track if they break or what-not. I'm sure I saw it once when i was new but i have just spent over 20minutes looking for it again -fail
I'm new here so excuse my rant but I am willing to commit time to deveoping a new site if anyone is intrested in this. I just dont want to see mycroft die. As far as i recall it was the ONLY search index for many many years.

Please tell me i'm wrong and this is still the best index of opensearches?

two argument searches

I think Mycroft is great but there are certain sites that don't fit in to the search box paradigm and don't therefore appear, particularly those that need two or more values to search on in different fields.
Examples are

  • the British yell.com where you need to search on a supplier type and a place
  • many travel sites where you need to enter a departure and destination

These could be handled within the single search-box by establishing a conventional separator (e.g. "/") for the arguments as long as the link to the search engine was designed to cope with this.
I pose the question here as I assume that many writers of plugins look at this discussion and would know if it is already catered for and how easy it would be to provide.

Thanks
Chris

Sherlock Plugins...

I'd like to submit a Sherlock search engine for SeaMonkey and i can't, for the life of me, figure out how to. i don't have a place to host it, so i was looking to host it on mycroft. Am I mistaken in my understanding that submitos only generates/creates Open Search search engines? How can I post a Sherlock one?

Sorry if, somehow, this is a really stupid question.
Thanks for the help.

unable to install from Mycroft

Every time I try to install a new search from Mycroft, I get an Install Error: This search engine isn't supported by Firefox and can't be installed.

I can add from other sites - either the automated way where the "Add 'Whatever Search'" appears in the search dropdown, or clicking an install link (did that on WorldCat.org, the link was:
href="javascript:addEngine('worldcat','gif','Web',0)

So why can't I add any Mycroft searches?

Scroogle and LinkExtend

I'm new to Scroogle. I usually use Google with LinkExtend.
I installed the Search Engine (using FF 3.5.3) and did a search. When the results came up, I noticed that the LinkExtend evaluation was not displayed beside every result as with Google.

Why is this and can it be fixed?

I think Scroogle is a great option, but I'd like to keep on using LinkExtend to decide if to visit a site or not.

Plugin search not finding the Dungeon crawl

I created a search plugin called "Dungeon Crawl Wiki". When I search for "crawl" on mycroft it doesn't show up, but it does come up when I search for "crawl wiki" and "dungeon". Why is this? I suspect anyone searching for it would most likely just search for "crawl" first (since that is how the game is most commonly referred to) and then give up when it doesn't show up. This seems to be odd behaviour for the search if it is deliberate.
Would changing the plugin name to "Crawl Wiki" give the desired behaviour?

Average wait before accounts are activated?

I only registered 3 days ago so I am not worried but I just have a question about on average how long will it take for my account to become active? I wont worry about it until at least a week has passed. I am just wondering, as I am eager to become more active in this community. I thank you for reading this I just basically I just wanted to know if it is going to be longer than a week is all. How long did it take for you (anyone who replies) to become active after registering. Thank you for reading this anyone who does, and Thank you in advance for your replies.

How to backup Firefox Search Plugin keywords?

I would like to know how to backup my search plugin keywords that I save in firefox. I know how to backup the plugins thmeselves (in the Profile folder and copy the searchengines folder) but each time I restore to a new profile in firefox the keywords are gone, is there anyway to back them up as well.

internet controlled by one CEO OR hey, I fouind it

I downloaded the mycroft search engine plugin because it said, "Search thousands of Search Engine Plugins"
I did not see thousands. So, I entered the search request for "search engines" with NOTHING FOUND being the results. after stumbling around for a while I found the following URL
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html

there I finally found Thousands of search engines
could this pleased be fixed please
"absolute power corrupts absolutely" I learned this in High School (last century) To have one search engine "Yahoooogle" control the entire net would be giving them absolute power over the net. Dangerous for us and careless of us.
Hey, I don't mean to be a hemorrhoid, I just really care about the direction of computers for the future. Freedom <like open-source> is important to me.

Load an OpenSearch description from computer

On the submission page there is a field "an OpenSearch description on your computer [...] can be uploaded here and most of the details should be parsed into the form:"

So I click "browse...", browse to profile searchplugins directory, double click on the xml file, click "Load" button.
The page refreshes, but it is as empty as before submitting: there is nothing in the fields below (except default values for encoding, category, country and language) nor in the textarea under "Generate plugin".

What's wrong?

Thanks

Xavier

PS: using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.9.0.1) Gecko/2008070208 Firefox/3.0.1 in case it is of some use.

Search engine domain change (too much ads)

Hello all !

Some times ago I submitted some MEDIADICO search engine plugins (dictionaries) for the site mediadico.com

Now the site is stuffed with blinking ads (one need a well-configured adblock or equivalent to see anything). Hopefully, it is mirrored by dictionnaire.tv5.org with much less ads (nothing blinking). So I would like to update my search engines from mediadico.com to dictionnaire.tv5.org.

Here are some questions:
- Can an update decently change the domain of the plugin (technically, yes, of course, but here I would like to have a more philosophical point of view; what is common practice)? Or is it better to make new search engine plugins and remove the old ones?
- There are already some (working) "old" Sherlock plugins for dictionnaire.tv5.org that would be redundant. Isn't it a problem?

Thanks for your answers,

Xavier

isohunt help

I love torrent files. Whenever I click on, "download Torrent", It goes directly to Windows media player. I think my daughter changed some settings. Would you be able to tell me how to fix it? If not, do you know who could tell me? I can't seem to locate any help pages on it. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

World Time Engine

I've just created a new search plugin that I think a few people may find useful.

It's the first of search plugin that will suggest a place as you type based on the millions of places available in the World Time Engine database. As the website suggests it lets you look up the name by country, city, town, village, street, post (zip) code and coordinates.

Searches can look as follows:

what time is it in London?
london
london and san francisco and 5th Av, New York and 51.5, -0.13

Let me know what you think!

Update: I forgot to attach the link to test the plugin: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name=World+Time+Engine

Where does the actual OpenSearch XML reside?

I have just created and successfully tested a plugin for a Romanian accommodation directory -- the plugin is available here. My question is if (and where) I can access the OpenSearch format proper associated with this plugin (i.e. the XML file). I've tried generating a proper OpenSearch XML for the past few hours with no luck: although I'm able to replicate the various models provided on the net, none of them are properly parsed by Firefox when I serve them via Apache (i.e. Firefox just displays the XML). Or maybe I'm doing something else wrong? (e.g. HTTP headers or whatever)

Thank you!

Thanks!

Hey ccaygill,

I just wanted to say thanks for providing this resource, I've been using Mycroft for several years now. Finally decided to start paying back with as much work as I can do. I've seen several posts which seem to indicate that it is your job or responsibility to provide what you do, I know it isn't and I think you rock!

Google - search this site

Google - search this site.

Google has a feature that lets you limit the search to the current website. It would be great to have this feature as a search provider.

search engine backup?

When I reinstall my OS and then install Firefox, I must go to the website and search for all the search engines I've gathered across the time, is there a way to backup them so I can install them right away without having to search for each one again?

Thanks

Context menu searching

Greetings, Suggestion for a plug-in. Say I have a search result in Google that I'd like to look up in Google Scholar. I'd like to have an option to right-click on the result link and have GScholar load and query the phrase (the advantage being that in GScholar, I have preferences set for direct access to my library).

Hello

I would love to have a french google search engine with a tiny french flag on the google logo :-)

Google Scholar Plugin

Hello Mozdev peoples,

The Mycroft Project's Google Scholar Plugin and the Muñoz Google Scholar Plugin share the same name so only one of them can be installed. Could some distinction be appended to these plugin's names so both can be installed?

Remove the Firefox search bar w. Google and other searches

Hi,

I recently had to reinstall my OS and notice I now have an additional Google search bar…(with other search engine options)
How do I get rid of this search field? It's a great feature, but unfortunately does not suit how I use Google or Firefox.
Real estate is valuable to me and when I’m working I must shrink all my windows.
My problem is when I do this the Firefox search bar crowds the address search bar field. There is no place left to type in where I need to go.
Is there a way to remove the Firefox search?
I have been a loyal Firefox user since very early on, but would move back to explorer if I can't resolve the removal of the extra search thingy I don’t need.
I have uninstalled all the extra addons and extensions I had downloaded from Firefox hoping to lose this extra search field but to no avail. Can you please help?

Please advise,

Warm regards,
